ATOMIC POWER PLANT IN INDIA

Nuclear power is the 5th largest source of electricity in India after thermal, hydroelectric & renewable sources of electricity. Presently, India has 22 nuclear power reactors operating in 7 states, with an installed capacity of 6780 MW electric. Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited which was formed in 1987 in Mumbai is a government owned corporation of India that is responsible for generation of electricity through nuclear power.

India has 7 nuclear power plants- Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant(Largest), Tamil Nadu; Tarapur Nuclear Reactor (oldest), Maharashtra; Rawatbhata Atomic Power Plant, Rajasthan; Kaiga Atomic Power Plant, Karnataka; Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant, Tamil Nadu; Narora Nuclear Reactor, Uttar Pradesh and Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant, Gujarat, with a total installed capacity of 7,380 MW.
